Stepping Stones to Music:
Welcome to Caramoor's Stepping Stones to Music initiative, which is designed to foster a life-long appreciation for music by offering age-appropriate programs for children of every age - from the very young to young adults. Between its lively Family Music programs, the informal and interactive "Caramoor Classics", and the Summer Festival family concerts, children of any age will enjoy a visit to Caramoor.
Family Music Programs Native American music, instruments and dance; four instruments sounding like one in a chamber music quartet; spooky Halloween stories with hot apple cider; and a festive holiday sing-along are the themes of the programs lined up this fall to introduce you and your children to the excitement and joys of Family Music Programs at Caramoor. These age-appropriate programs are carefully selected to foster a life-long appreciation for music. They are geared for children 3 to 12 years old and their families. They all take place in the Diane Moss Education Center - a colorful, lively, informal space in one of our original Mediterranean-style buildings.
Caramoor Classics Designed with our Student Strings program in mind these concerts are held in the Music Room in Caramoor's House Museum in the fall, winter and spring. They are less formal than other Music Room performances and are appropriate for children 8 years and older and their families. Featuring Caramoor's Ernst Stiefel Quartet-in-Residence, our Rising Stars and the Caramoor Virtuosi, they present young artists who interact with the students. These concerts include comments from the artists about the program. They last approximately 2 hours.
Festival Family Concerts The Festival Family Concerts are intended for children 6 years and older and are held in the outdoor, tented Venetian Theater during Caramoor's Summer International Music Festival. Parallel performances for children under 6 take place at the same time at a venue near the Venetian Theater.
2008 Caramoor International Music Festival The Festival will take place from June 21st through August 3rd.
